QFleet case study

The Queensland Government vehicle pool is managed by QFleet. They control 10,000 vehicles for 30,000 drivers to use for government business. Only half of these cars use logbooks for determining FBT liability and Queensland Treasury has confirmed an estimate of $1500 per car per year could be saved with autoSCRIBE™ logbooks. In addition it is estimated to cost $350 per car per year to allocate reportable FBT across the state’s 30,000 public servants. This cost could be eliminated with autoSCRIBE™. The cost benefit table below shows a net saving of $34 million over 5 years without considering any fleet rationalisation. As a result autoSCRIBE™ has been short listed in a QFleet tender for a system to manage vehicle FBT.

  1. Savings based on 50% of 10,000 cars saving $1,500 per year in FBT. This estimate is supported by Queensland Treasury and results from QFleet trials 2001.
  2. Average administration saving is for reduction of Reportable FBT allocation costs. Saving is estimated at less than 50% of QRail budget cost estimates of $715 per car 2001.
  3. Number of units purchased equals 10,000 estimated pool cars out of the 13,000 vehicles in fleet
  4. Estimate 200 receiver units at $700 each
  5. Warranty for first 12 months is included in Vehicle Unit price
